Out-of-Kit Wounds & Injuries with Hair & Make-Up Designer Marie Deehan

Join Hair & Make-Up Designer Marie Deehan for a hands-on, practical day focused on creating realistic wounds and injuries using out-of-kit techniques for film and television.

Designed for artists looking to strengthen their SFX skills, this course explores how to achieve convincing, on-set ready results. Content can be tailored depending on experience level, with Marie guiding you through approaches suited to your skill set.

About the Course

Throughout the morning, Marie will lead a series of demonstrations, breaking down her approach to creating believable injuries without relying on full prosthetic builds.

You’ll cover:

Creating wounds using silicone and ProBondo techniques

Building texture and dimension to mimic real skin

Breaking down the skin for added realism

Developing bruising and trauma tones

Effective and controlled blood work

As part of the demonstration, Marie will also show how to create a swollen eye effect using a silicone appliance - a highly effective technique for achieving dramatic casualty results on screen.

Marie will share her on-set methods, product choices, and practical tips to help you achieve realistic results.

Practical Session

In the afternoon, you’ll take part in a guided practical session, allowing you to recreate and develop the techniques demonstrated, with hands-on support from Marie throughout.

For students who feel confident working around the eye area - and whose models have disclosed any relevant allergies or sensitivities and confirmed they are happy to proceed - there will be the option to purchase a PAM SFX swollen eye appliance at a discounted price, this can be applied during the afternoon practical session. Students choosing to work with this appliance must hold the appropriate public liability insurance, as outlined in the Terms & Conditions below.

For those who prefer not to work around the eye, Marie’s ProBondo, blood work, and colouring techniques provide excellent alternatives, and students will still be able to achieve highly realistic and impressive casualty results during their afternoon practical session.

To ensure a high level of support, practical places are limited to 8 attendees.
